Carl’s Tavern

We like to think Carl’s Tavern is the kind of place Carl Howelsen himself would’ve come to put down some tall beers after a day of long jumps. A place with plenty of good food to enjoy and good times to be had. A place where school teachers, cattle ranchers, bikers and boarders can all feel at home. And a place where a guy known for flying down a mountain with wooden planks strapped to his feet-while snappily dressed in a shirt and tie, mind you-can serve as our collective inspiration to grab life by the horns, try new things, make new friends, and just be ourselves.

hen Laundry, a gastro-pub with a vintage feel, opened, expectations were high. And, indeed, the restaurant’s small-plate concept has proved to be a boon to Steamboat’s growing culinary scene. Housed in an old brick laundromat retrofitted with teardrop-shaped light fixtures and Art Deco-style wine racks, Laundry has a noisy but festive atmosphere. Platters of cheeses, cured meats and fennel-heavy veggies are rich and filling, as is the taco-confit duck. Try the savory fried chicken-polenta or the hickory-smoked brisket.
